Where Time Slows Down – Our Journey Through the Dolomites

There are destinations we visit.
And then there are places that transform us.

Our latest FAM Trip took us to Corvara, in the heart of Alta Badia, where five unforgettable days at Hotel Sassongher reminded us that true luxury goes far beyond comfort. It’s about the way a destination makes you feel.

Surrounded by the majestic peaks of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Dolomites, we left the pace of everyday life behind and immersed ourselves in an experience where nature sets the rhythm, hospitality comes naturally, and every moment invites you to slow down.

Hotel Sassongher

Fun Fact: The Dolomites were formed by the movement of tectonic plates. They were named after French geologist Déodat de Dolomieu, who studied the unique mineral composition of the rocks that now bear his name.

“Paola, Sero, Francesco, and the entire family create an atmosphere that feels incredibly personal and authentic. They are truly the heart and soul of the hotel, and I believe that sets Hotel Sassongher apart.” – Megan Lee Hollister, Black Sheep Travel

“Some destinations don’t ask you to hurry. They ask you to be present.”

From the very first welcome aperitivo hosted by Francesco Morini, Owner and General Manager of Hotel Sassongher, it became clear this would be much more than a site inspection.

It would be an immersion into the true essence of the Dolomites.

Every detail, from the warm smiles of the team to the conversations shared around the table, reflected a family tradition built over generations.

At Sassongher, luxury doesn’t need to impress. It simply makes you feel at home.

“One thing we learned from our wonderful hosts is that many places market themselves as being in the Dolomites when they are not actually located there.” – Rose Pernjakovic, Savanti Travel

“Luxury here doesn’t make noise. It makes you feel welcome.”

One of the first things that captured our attention wasn’t the breathtaking mountain views—it was the way we were welcomed.

The Morini family’s hospitality makes every guest feel like part of the hotel’s story. The elegant yet inviting atmosphere encourages you to slow down, embrace the moment, and take in the magnificent landscapes surrounding the property.

“Just returned from an amazing summer visit to the Dolomites with TL Portfolio where we stayed at Hotel Sassongher in Alta Badia. We had a big group (about 18 of us) with agents from all over the globe. The hotel is a boutique, family-owned and run, luxury property in a great location with access to the mountains and is walkable to the town.” – Katie Brook, Embark Beyond

“Every trail reveals a new perspective of the Dolomites.”

Throughout the journey, we traded meeting rooms for hiking trails, elevators for cable cars, the rush of everyday life for the silence of the mountains—and even enjoyed a round of golf.

Guided by the Alta Badia team, we explored scenic paths where every turn unveiled another spectacular view. Among some of Italy’s most iconic landscapes, we realized that the Dolomites are far more than a destination—they’re an invitation to take a deeper breath.

Regardless of the trail chosen or its level of difficulty, everyone shared the same feeling at the end of each day: they had experienced something truly extraordinary.

“The family atmosphere, level of service, and sense of place on property is exactly what speaks to our clients when we say boutique, family owned hotels.” Ellie Friese, HC Travel Firm

“Between the mountains, exceptional cuisine, and genuine hospitality, we discovered the true essence of Alta Badia and Ladin culture.”

The journey was equally defined by the flavors of the region.

Mountain hut lunches, sunset aperitivos, and thoughtfully prepared dinners turned every meal into an opportunity to connect—with the local culture, with nature, and with one another.

It was this perfect balance of simplicity, authenticity, and excellence that made every gathering unforgettable.

“My stay at Hotel Sassongher was the perfect way to close out an unforgettable multi-stop journey through Italy. What truly sets Hotel Sassongher apart, though, is its heart. And then there’s Saro, who has been behind the bar for over 30 years and is a legend in his own right. Spending time with him quickly became one of my favorite memories of the trip.” – Stormy Barbara, Travel Edge

“The best journeys are the ones that stay with you long after you’ve returned home.”

Our journey also brought us closer to Ladin culture through authentic local experiences, free time to explore the region, and a farewell dinner at the traditional Maso Runch, where we celebrated an unforgettable week filled with discoveries.

By the end of the trip, we were taking home far more than beautiful photographs.

We left with stories, meaningful connections, and lasting inspiration.
